Passivhaus insulation

A carefully chosen insulation material will have most of these properties:

  • not result in overly thick walls (<0.5m)
  • create little or no waste
  • easy to install without gaps (less thermal bridging)
  • low embodied energy/end-of-live reuse/recycling
  • provide some thermal mass
  • have good moisture management properties

Moisture management is often overlooked, particularly where planning or other constraints require that internal wall insulation is used, the choice of insulation is critical in managing moisture safely.
